Robert Bruce Peebles (1841-1916) of Northampton County, NC, entered the University in 1859, was a member of the Philanthropic Society, and joined the Confederate army in 1862. He became a lawyer, a member of the NC House of Representatives (1869, 1895-97), a superior court judge (1903-12), and a University trustee (1874-1903).
